The neurodeck is an informative action by the Scientific Culture Unit of the Cajal Institute, led by Laura Ramos del Álamo. The project has been aimed at raising awareness of neuroscience, the most relevant discoveries and the work, both past and present, of neuroscientists in general, and of the Cajal Institute in particular. A deck of cards is a small object that can be easily taken anywhere and allows many games for children, young people and adults, even one as familiar as mus!

The 44 neurocards include the four classic suits adorned with four prototypical cells of the nervous system; two kings and two queens with iconic figures of the discipline; four horses with some of Cajal’s disciples who starred in the most brilliant stage of Hispanic science in the Spanish Neurological School; four jacks that display the range of female profiles in neuroscience, and four jokers that present the main techniques and equipment on which current neuroscientific research is based.
Based on an original idea by Mar Fernández Núñez (@maresdeciencias) and Laura Ramos, the illustrations of the cards in the deck have been the work of @martasproject. Fernando de Castro Soubriet and Juan Andrés de Carlos have dedicated much of their time to us and provided documents and information about Cajal and the disciples of the Spanish Neurological School. The UNED Audiovisual Media Center has given us a hand with the recording of the interviews. Natalia Yanguas Casás and Leyre Flamarique have contributed with the entries of microglia and their diseases the first, and the entries of the queens (Marian Diamond and Rita Levi Montalcini) the second. In addition, Laura has been directing, coordinating and publishing week by week on Instagram, from January 6 to today, June 23, 2022. Thank you all for making it possible💗.
